Download Festival 2017

First year at Download Festival and now I better go every year without fail… I didn’t really know what to expect from Download because I’d always known it to be more of a Metal music festival rather than a pop punk festival which is more my kind of music. However loads of bands that I do like were there, so at the last minute my friend Jess and I decided to get tickets for the Friday and Saturday (shout out to Jessie for lending me the money).

So, we left my house at about 10:30am then went the wrong way which set us back a little (totally my fault) and then spent a while getting ready. We left the hotel to get the bus to Download and after it being half an hour late (thanks Skylink) the bus finally arrived and we were on our way to Download. Getting in wasn’t too bad seen as everyone was in by the time we had got there. After struggling for a little while (because of the lack of signage at Download) to find the Avalanche stage, State Champs – one of my favourite bands were just finishing. Obviously I was devastated, but the amount of bands I saw this weekend kind of made up for it.

So, after missing State Champs (honestly I’m fine) we headed over to the Zippo stage where Good Charlotte were just starting The Anthem is my all time favourite Good Charlotte song so for them to come out with that was a win. Alas we couldn’t stay for all of them, as Sleeping with Sirens were about to start back at the Avalanche Stage so we headed to watch them. I’ve seen SWS once before at Warped Tour where they were pretty awesome, but they were actually amazing at Download. Kellins vocals, energy and the atmosphere of the arena all contributed to my favourite show of the day. Also I saw Tyler and Derek (State Champs) stood at the side of the stage. Once they’d finished we went to watch Sum 41. Then we went to go and get a drink – the only reason I’m mentioning this is because they charge you £2 for a reusable cup and apparently if you took the cup back you got your £2 back – I forgot to take mine back so I still have it. However I thought that was a pretty good way to avoid people littering so much. So well done Download.

After we’d go our drinks we headed to watch System of a Down on the main stage – whom I was a little apprehensive to see as I’d only really ever listened to Chop Suey and not much else by them, but they were the headliner act and my friend Jess wanted to see them so over we went and I’ve got to say I was pleasantly surprised – they were awesome live.

Day 2: We got up early(ish) checked out of our hotel, went to the nearest shopping centre for food and then headed to Download. After arriving there a lot easier than the previous day we got into the Arena and had a little walk around looking at all the stalls before heading to As It Is, who were great. Patty had so much energy it was amazing to watch and made it a great show. After that we headed over to the main stage for Pierce the Veil who I have loved for years, but had never gotten the opportunity to see live, so this was a pretty special one for me and as expected they did not disappoint. Once PTV was over we had a little while to wait for A Day to Remember, so we just went and found somewhere to sit. I plaited Jess’s hair, we just listened to one of the bands that was playing within earshot from us (and a random man bowed to us). Unfortunately we also had to leave A Day to Remember early as The Story So Far were starting, another band I’ve wanted to see for ages again they were awesome as to be expected. Then we saw a bit of Simple Plan and then headed to watch Biffy Clyro the headline act who were great, loved their stage. After such a great weekend we had to get on the road because we both had work the next day…
